Quick Garlic and Herb Flatbread (with or without Cheese)
This quick and easy garlic and herb flatbreads is one of the most versatile and practical dishes to make!
You can make this recipe using a few simple ingredients including homemade naan (or store-bought naan/flatbread).
If you are using store-bought naan/flatbread then I should really call this extremely quick garlic and herb flatbread… as in it takes less than 5 minutes!
All you need to do is make the delicious garlic herb butter mixture, spread over the flatbreads and grill to perfection (bringing a wonderful roasted garlic flavor). It is that simple!
You can also make this tasty appetizer with or without cheese (for cheesy garlic bread lovers)!
This recipe is a quicker and easier version of traditional garlic flatbreads you see in restaurants (using hand-stretched pizza dough!)! Plus, no yeast or fancy equipment required!
In this recipe I use homemade naan (my butter naan recipe) (you can also use my whole wheat naan recipe or store-bought naan (look for something thin for a crispy and thin flatbread).
So next time you are looking for a tasty starter dish with your weeknight meal – or planning appetizers for a party/get-together – this will be one for your collection!
Ingredients to make Garlic Flatbread
- Garlic: mince a small/medium clove of garlic.
- Salted butter: for richness and flavor.
- Herbs: dried oregano and dried parsley enhance the flavor of the garlic and herb butter mixture.
- Naan or flatbreads: you can use homemade regular naan, homemade whole wheat naan or store-bought naans/flatbread for this recipe.
- Optional – you can sprinkle grated/shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top for a garlic cheese flatbread/cheesy garlic bread!
How to make Garlic Herb Butter for Garlic Bread and Flatbread
To make this garlic herb butter mixture:
- Start by melting the butter. You can use a microwave or pan. If you are melting in the microwave – use a microwave-safe bowl, cover and melt in short bursts (to prevent a buttery mess)!
- Mix with garlic and herbs. Once you have melted the butter, add the minced garlic and dried herbs (oregano and parsley) and mix to combine. Taste the mixture and adjust if desired.

How to make Garlic Flatbread
- Make the garlic and herb butter mixture (as above) and warm the flatbreads/naans in the grill or microwave for a few seconds, or until warm. This will help the flatbread become soft and absorb more of the garlic butter mixture.
- Spread mixture across surface of naan/flatbread. Using a brush or spoon (as the mixture will be runny). Ensure the naan is fully covered with the buttery mixture for maximum flavor.
- Optional – sprinkle cheese if desired.
- Grill for a few minutes to perfection. Grill on high heat for a few minutes or until you notice the naan/flatbread becoming crispy and slightly golden. If you are adding cheese – grill until the cheese has melted and become slightly golden. Cut into quarters or slices, serve fresh and enjoy!
Top tips
- Adjust garlic and herb mixture as desired: this recipe allows for extra herbs (or garlic) as desired! I recommend tasting the garlic and herb mixture before spreading onto naans/flatbreads.
- Use fresh naan: for the best results use freshly made naan – which is soft and thin.
- Meal prep tip: You can make naan in bulk and freeze for future meals - check out this easy step-by-step guide to freeze homemade naan!
