Plus – pizza making is a great activity for the kids too – mix and match your toppings (everyone has their favorite)! This dish is an easy way to turn your home into a fun pizza making workshop – enjoy a delicious pizza night!
This recipe uses homemade plain naan as the base for these pizzas (for a light and thin crust) – you can also use whole wheat naan if preferred) or store-bought naans as desired.
This is a much quicker (and more convenient option) than making traditional pizza dough from scratch – plus no yeast required! This is great if you want easy meals with less hassle!
All you need to do is prepare your toppings, decorate your pizza – and air fry for 2 minutes – to pizza perfection.
This recipe is a great option if you are looking for a healthier and lighter version of traditional pizza (with no added sugar) – and the same mouthwatering flavors and taste!
This dish is also a great way to add in some veggies for a nutritious and quick lunch or dinner!
One of the best things about homemade pizzas is being able to adapt each pizza exactly the way you like!
You can use a variety of toppings and adjust as desired. Whether you prefer less cheese, more sauce or extra veggies – this recipe will work for you. Everyone can have their own personal pizzas!
Notes on Recipe Ingredients
- Naan/flatbread: this recipe uses thin plain naan as the pizza base. I recommend homemade tandoori naans for the best flavor. You can use whole wheat naan or store-bought naans if preferred. Look for thin naan (for a thin and crispy pizza base). You can also use a thin flatbread as a base if desired.
- Olive oil: (or extra virgin olive oil), this is brushed over the naan for a richer taste. This is optional but recommended.
- Tomato puree/tomato paste (double concentrated): what we refer to as tomato puree in the UK is also called tomato paste in countries including the US and Australia. Tomato puree/tomato paste is a quicker version of pizza sauce.
- Cheese (fresh mozzarella and cheddar cheese): use shredded cheese or grate cheese using a grater. A mixture of cheddar and mozzarella cheese is used for a range of flavor. You can find pre-shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese in most grocery stores.
- Toppings: mix and match as desired. For this recipe, in addition to the tomato base and cheese, toppings include:
- Red onions
- Bell peppers/capsicum: you can use any color, I like a mix of red and green bell peppers/capsicums
- Green chillies: or red/green jalapeños
- Plum/cherry tomatoes: or regular tomatoes
- Sweetcorn
Optional
Other toppings: you can also add other toppings including scallions/spring onions, mushrooms or spinach as desired.
Seasonings including herbs and freshly black pepper. For more flavor you can sprinkle herbs on top of each decorated pizza (and/or mix with the tomato paste). Herbs include oregano or mixed Italian seasoning.
Garlic: You can also add a pinch of minced garlic or garlic powder to the tomato paste for a more flavorful tomato base.

Equipment
Air fryer: if you are using an air fryer, I recommend using a wide air fryer with a tray including Ninja air fryer. This air fryer has variable fan speed and comes with a crisper basket and an air fry setting which is temperature controlled. (If you are in the UK I recommend this Ninja air fryer).
Note: These pizzas take less time in the air fryer than in an oven (cooking time of 2 minutes in air fryer vs 8-10 minutes in oven).
Preparation Tips
I recommend preparing your toppings in advance before assembling each pizza.
- Prepare toppings: You can cut/dice ingredients as desired. Slice chillies and dice onions and bell peppers. Slice plum/cherry tomatoes. You can also prepare these in advance and store in an airtight container!
- For a flavorful tomato sauce/base – add a pinch of minced garlic and oregano to the tomato puree/paste and mix to combine.
How to make Pizza in the air fryer.
- Brush with oil. Brush the naan with a little olive oil (or extra virgin olive oil).
- Spread with tomato sauce. Spread tomato sauce/paste across the naan (or flatbread).
- Add cheese. Sprinkle a handful of cheddar cheese.
- Add more toppings. Start by sprinkling the diced onions, bell peppers and green chillies. Add sweetcorn, plum/cherry tomatoes and other toppings as desired.
- Sprinkle with more cheese. Sprinkle a little cheddar cheese and a handful of mozzarella cheese on top. Optional – top with a pinch of dried oregano.
- Air fry at 200°C/392°F for 2 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and pizza is cooked. Serve and enjoy!
Top tips for the best air fryer naan pizza
- Preheat air fryer basket (without parchment paper) – this helps to cook the base of the pizza quickly – for a crispy crust and base!
- Air fry on high heat (air fry setting). The high heat air fry setting helps to mimic a traditional pizza oven.
- Use homemade or thin store-bought naan: for the best thin and crispy pizza
- Serve fresh: while hot and crispy – for the best taste and texture!
Variations and substitutions
Mix and match as desired:
- Garlic and pesto: add minced garlic and herbs to the tomato puree/paste. Spread the pizza base with tomato sauce and pesto before adding cheese and toppings. For a stronger flavor, use garlic naan as the base.
- Spinach and mushroom pizza: for a delightful spinach and mushroom pizza, add chopped spinach and sliced mushrooms. For this pizza, I recommend using the garlic-infused tomato paste/puree for the best flavor.
- Pizza sauce: for a classic sauce, use homemade pizza sauce or leftover pasta sauce (or marinara sauce) as the tomato base.
- Spice it up: for extra spice, sprinkle some red pepper flakes and black pepper (in addition to green or red chillies).
- Mediterranean-style pizza: for a richer flavor, add roasted peppers and caramelized onions. Use my preparation tips in Mediterranean bruschetta to make a Mediterranean-style pizza with roasted peppers and sweet caramelized onions.
- Mini pizza: turn these into mini naan pizzas by using mini naan bread!
- Other ideas: substitute naan with pita bread for a thicker pizza!
How to serve
Serve this pizza with fresh homemade coleslaw, garlic flatbreads, air fryer sweet potato wedges and vegan veggie soup!
Alternatively, for a full feast, serve with spaghetti, mushroom poppers or ratatouille! You can also turn leftover pizza into bites for a fun appetizer or a quick snack!
This also goes well with some garlic breaded mushrooms and jalapeño poppers! Serve with a glass of fresh fruit juice including orange passion fruit juice or our apple, orange and carrot juice!
