I love how this dip has a wonderful balance of flavors and textures… the creaminess of the fresh avocados, sweetness of tomatoes perfectly paired with refreshing lemon juice, coriander/cilantro and red onions!
Notes about Recipe Ingredients
You just need a few simple ingredients to whip up this chunky salsa with avocado!
- Fresh tomato: look for fresh tomatoes which are ripe, bringing more sweetness in this salsa. You can use Roma tomatoes/plum tomatoes if you prefer.
- Fresh avocado: use ripe avocado which is fresh and green in color. The addition of avocado brings another layer in this dip.
- Red onion: for flavor (I prefer this to white onion/yellow onion as it is slightly sweeter).
- Fresh coriander/fresh cilantro: both cilantro/coriander leaves and stalks are added to bring a refreshing taste to this pico de gallo
- Green chilli: for a hint of spice
- Lemon juice: fresh lemon juice (or bottled) (you can also use fresh lime juice if you prefer)
- Salt (or sea salt): for seasoning and to enhance the flavors in this recipe

Note: this recipe does not contain garlic and is a milder salsa. For a more powerful and stronger tasting salsa, you can add ¼ teaspoon minced garlic.
How to Make Fresh Pico De Gallo with Avocado
Add chopped ingredients into the bowl and mix together. In a small/medium bowl, place the diced avocado, tomatoes, coriander, chillies and onions. Add the salt and lemon and mix until all combined.
Tips to Make the Perfect Avocado Pico De Gallo
- Use fresh ingredients: for the best results, look for the freshest ingredients. When shopping at the grocery store/supermarket for coriander or cilantro – look for bunches which are vibrant, green and uniform in colour and have a fresh aroma, with no wilted stems or leaves. Ensure the avocado and tomatoes are ripe and firm but with no bruises.
- Preparing ingredients: dice the tomato and avocado into small chunks. I recommend finely chopping the onions and coriander to release more flavor in this dip.

Avocado Pico De Gallo
Ingredients
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 1 Avocado chopped
- 1 tablespoon Coriander finely chopped
- ½ Green chilli (optional) chopped
- 1 tablespoon Red onion finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon Lemon juice or to taste
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a small/medium bowl, place the chopped tomatoes, avocado, coriander, jalapeno pepper/chilli and onions.
