Celery juice (in blender)
This fresh celery juice drink is a real game-changer when it comes to clean eating (and drinking)!
For me, this drink is a great way to start the day when I'm looking to have cleanse and detox! I find it helpful to start with organic lemon juice/lemon water followed by a glass of celery juice on an empty stomach.
All you need is one key ingredient – fresh celery which is blended with water and ice to give you a nutritious drink!
This plain celery juice has no additional fruit or vegetables as the key purpose is to give your body a cleanse. This way consuming celery on its own can give its benefits without being digested with other ingredients!
Many enthusiasts of celery juice have expressed how beneficial drinking celery juice can be for the body – when we refer to celery juice it refers to celery with or without water and ice (not any other fruit, vegetables or other ingredients to enhance the taste).
You may also be familiar with the celery juice craze. It was popularized by Anthony William (a medical medium), who detailed benefits of celery juice including for detoxification. Many celebrities have also talked about their own experiences, linking different improvements in their health to drinking celery juice.

What does celery juice taste like?
Celery juice tastes refreshing and crisp with a mildly savory and subtly bitter flavor. Overall, the flavor is similar to fresh celery stalks but slightly milder.
Potential health benefits of celery juice
- High fiber: this recipe blends celery and water in a blender and does not strain any of the juice. I recommend this technique because you keep the fiber of celery (making this drink rich in fiber). If you used a juicer (or strainer) it would reduce the fiber content (even though it would be thinner).
- Digestion and hydration: celery juice has been thought to help digestion and hydrate the body.
- Celery has antioxidant properties: antioxidants help reduce inflammation in the body. Antioxidant-rich diets are associated with decreased rates of chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers. Celery also contains the antioxidant, luteolin, which can prevent inflammation in cells within the brain.
- Celery is also rich in vitamins and essential minerals: These include vitamin K, vitamin C (which can help boost immunity), potassium, and folate.
- Weight loss: some people believe in the potential benefits of a "cleanse" for weight loss but it should be noted that the scientific evidence supporting this claim is limited.
- Popular celery juice “cleanses” involve consuming celery juice in addition to other healthy lifestyle choices including limiting refined and processed foods including sugar and exercising regularly. The health benefits of these cleanses are due to a combination of healthy eating and exercise.
What you need to make celery juice
- Organic Celery: use fresh celery stalks, you will need one bunch of celery to make this juice. Remove the stalks by cutting the end, wash thoroughly with warm water to remove any dirt or debris before using celery.
- Water (optional ice cube): water is added to the blender to help blend into juice, you can also add ice to make the drink cooler (as the motor can sometimes release heat)
How to prepare the celery
Before adding celery to the blender make sure the stalks have been thoroughly washed, drained and chopped into chunks.

- Wash celery: the best way to wash celery is to start by separating the stalks from the bunch. Rinse thoroughly under cold running water and gently rub each stalk to remove any dirt or debris. You can use a soft sponge to help remove any dirt if required, use a knife to trim the ends of the celery. Rinse and drain the celery stalks.
- Cut celery into small pieces: Trim the ends of the celery (the root end and leafy top of the stalks), then rinse again. Use a knife and chopping/cutting board to chop celery into small chunks (this helps blend the celery easily). Tip: place a few celery stalks flat on the chopping board and use a knife to slice into chunks.
How to make celery juice (in a blender)
- Add water and chopped celery to the blender. Add half a cup of water to the blender followed by chopped celery chunks. Add one cube of ice.
- Blitz into a smooth juice. Secure lid firmly onto blender and blitz using the juice setting on your blender, for 1 minute, or until juice is smooth. If required, add another ¼ - ½ cup of water to make up 3 cups of juice – blitz for 5-10 seconds until mixed. Serve and enjoy!
Equipment
To make this fresh juice, all you need is a high-speed blender – I recommend Blendtec – this blender has a number of blending cycles and allows you to adjust blending.
Tips to Make the Perfect Glass of Fresh Juice
- Adjust the water – the water content can vary in celery, therefore you may wish to add more water after blending to make the juice thinner.
- Use a good blender – it is important to use a good functioning blender to blitz the celery into juice. I recommend using a blender (like Blendtec) which allows you to adjust blending options. This also has a scale which allows you to measure the number of cups of juice that you will have (and whether you need to add more water).
- Add ice – this will cool down the temperature of the juice (as the motor of the blender will warm up the drink).
- Pause and shake if required – if you notice the celery is not fully incorporating or mixing – I recommend stopping the blender, gently shaking and then resuming. This helps to ensure the blade appropriately blitzes the celery to make a smooth, fresh juice.
- Organic celery - I prefer to use organic ingredients when making juices and smoothies where possible. Organic celery is a cleaner, healthier choice as it is grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

It can be fun to experiment with different combinations or and incorporate blended celery juice into smoothies to enjoy its potential benefits while adjusting the flavor to your preference. Blender juices are a great way to increase fiber intake, which can also help with gut health.
