What are the benefits of this mixed berry smoothie?
- Drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juice is a great way to incorporate nutrients into your diet!
- Strawberries, blueberries and blackberries contain a variety of nutrients such as vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants, associated with several health benefits including reducing cholesterol, inflammation and blood pressure as well as boosting the immune system.
- Berries have been found to be one of the healthiest foods and fresh and frozen appear to provide the same benefits.
- Broccoli is a vegetable low in calories and rich in nutrients including fibre, vitamin C and K, iron and potassium and antioxidants. Broccoli can help to reduce cholesterol and protect against cancer. Some individuals may not be able to tolerate this vegetable so adjust quantities/omit as necessary.
Combining these ingredients into one juice provide a wide range of nutrients in just one glass!
Ingredients You Need to Make this Fresh Juice
- Berries: fresh strawberries, blackberries and blueberries are used in this juice. You can substitute with frozen berries (then omit the ice).
- Broccoli (optional): use fresh broccoli which is vibrant in color, preferably organic
- Water (and ice – optional) – as the water content needed in this recipe varies based on the water content of the berries, I would recommend adding less whilst blending to prevent diluting the drink. I also recommend adding ice, as the blender motor warms up the drink – this avoids the need to store the juice in the fridge to cool it down!

How to Make Berry Juice
- Add water, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries (and broccoli if including) to the blender. Add one cup of water to the blender followed by the strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and broccoli (if including). Remove the green stem (calyx) from the strawberries. Add one cube of ice.
- Blitz into a smooth juice. Secure lid firmly onto blender and blend on high power (or using the juice setting on your blender) for 1 minute, or until juice is smooth. Serve and enjoy!
Equipment
To make this fresh juice, all you need is a blender – I recommend Blendtec – this blender has a number of blending cycles and allows you to adjust blending. You can also use a Ninja/Vitamix blender.
Tips to Make the Perfect Glass of Fresh Fruit Juice
- Adjust the water – the water content varies in berries – you can always add more water for desired consistency.
- Use a good blender – it is important to use a good functioning blender to blitz the fruit and veg into a smooth juice. I recommend using a blender (like Blendtec) which allows you to adjust blending options. This also has a scale which allows you to measure the number of cups of juice that you will have (and whether you need to add more water).
- Add ice – this will cool down the temperature of the juice (as the motor of the blender will warm up the drink).
- Use fresh ingredients and wash just before use – for best results, make sure to select the freshest ingredients. When selecting berries, ensure they are fresh looking with no white spots and ensure the broccoli is vibrant in color and firm. Rinse the fruit and broccoli with water just before using (not in advance as this can cause the fruit and vegetables to spoil).
- Pause and shake if required – if you notice the berries and broccoli are not fully incorporating or mixing – I recommend stopping the blender and gently shaking and then resuming – this helps to ensure the blade appropriately blitzes the fruit and veg to make a smooth, fresh juice.
How to Serve Fresh fruit and veg juice
- This healthy juice is the perfect drink for (or with) breakfast to boost your energy and give you clarity! For a wholesome and nutritious breakfast, enjoy this fresh juice with scrambled eggs or veggie omelette!
- Alternatively, you can enjoy this juice with any main meal or snack – I would recommend drinking fresh juice on an empty stomach (or with a meal) rather than after a meal, for maximum absorption and benefit.
