How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Step 1: Wash the strawberries. Wash and hull the strawberries (remove their stems), then dry strawberries with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Step 2: Melt the chocolate. Place chocolate chips and olive oil in a heatproof bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes, in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.
Step 3: Arrange the strawberries on a plate, tray or baking sheet. Line a plate or tray with parchment paper, baking paper or wax paper. Ensure each strawberry is dry. Arrange the strawberries in a single layer or across the plate so there is a space between each strawberry.
Step 4: Coat each strawberry with melted chocolate then allow to set in the fridge. Dip method: dip each strawberry into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Let excess chocolate drip off before placing dipped strawberries onto the plate/tray. Coat method: Alternatively, use a spoon to drop melted chocolate on the tip of each strawberry, swirling the spoon to coat the strawberry. Optional – top with a drizzle of melted white chocolate or coconut flakes as desired. Transfer into the fridge and allow the strawberries to set for at least 15-20 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens. Serve and enjoy!
Expert Tips for the Best Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Make sure the strawberries are dry: this helps for the best results, giving you a smooth finish and delicious taste. Any moisture from the strawberries can prevent the chocolate from sticking to the strawberries. Drying the strawberries also prevents the water droplets diluting the melted chocolate.
- Avoid overheating the chocolate: the easiest way to melt chocolate is using a micrwave. If using this method, make sure to melt chocolate in short bursts (15-30 seconds) and stir frequently for smooth melted chocolate. Alternatively, you can use the double boiler method by placing a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. The steam gently melts the chocolate, ensuring a smooth texture.
- Coat vs dip method: the dip method is a great option for covering the entire strawberry with thin layer of chocolate. Coating the strawberries with a spoon is a great option for a thicker chocolate coating covering the majority of each strawberry. You can use either method for these, as preferred. It helps to use a two spoons for easy dipping.
- Add toppings for extra fun: Try sprinkling crushed pistachios, coconut flakes or melted white chocolate onto the chocolate before it sets for added texture and flavor.
